A Camping We Will Go!

Jack had the best 24 hours of his life Friday and Saturday. We took him camping. Just him. No Sophie. He was in heaven! Friday, early afternoon, we dropped Soap off at my mom's, and Jack and I headed up American Fork Canyon, past Tibble Creek, to a campground called Granite Flat. We found a spot (just in time! We got one of the last one's) and set up the tent. Then we drove down to the lake and wandered for a bit while we waited for Scott to get off work.

Scott joined us in the evening and we did a little wandering around the campground and then roasted some marshmallows in the fire. Jack thought it was pretty funny when Scott caught them on fire. He also thought it was so awesome when we were setting up the bed in the tent. He couldn't stop giggling. While we were roasting marshmallows, we decided it was time to get in our jammies and get all snuggly in the tent. I asked Jack what he wanted to do, and suggested we could play a game or color in his coloring book, and he said, "I have a idea! We could sleep!" Sweet boy! He did decide to color one page, but then he was ready for bed. I watched him for quite a while, and he just stared up at the top of the tent, all snuggled up between me and Scott.

In the morning we woke up early, wandered a little more, then headed back to the lake, where Jack wanted to play with his Winnie the Pooh playing cards (by play I mean scatter them on the dirt one at a time.) After that he was ready to go home, so we drove down the canyon, had some delicious breakfast at IHOP, then picked up the Soap.

What an awesome adventure for a little guy! It was a fantastic night off from Sophie for all of us. Jack was just cute and happy the entire time. I think we need to do things like that a little more often. He is missing some serious mommy and daddy time with his demanding baby sister around lately.

Thanks, mom, for letting Sophie sleep over!
